The simple, but important answer is 1. So, why do men make millions of sperm?
Sperm are constantly in danger. Inside the testicle it takes a sperm about 72 days to go from a germ cell to a fully mature sperm cell capable of fertilizing an egg. During that time, it needs proper nutrition and temperature to develop normally. Once mature, sperm are stored in a long tube called the epididymis where they wait to be ejaculated. Like tiny engines, mature sperm cells produce a form of exhaust known as reactive oxygen species that can damage the cell’s membranes. After about a week in the epididymis, sperm cells that haven’t been ejaculated begin to die.
For the lucky sperm that make it into the female’s body, it’s a whole new world of danger. Vaginal walls tend to be acidic to protect women from potential infections. During the fertile window, the female creates a sperm friendly fluid that enables sperm to swim up towards the egg. Sperm are not that smart. Many of them get lost in the cervix. Those who do make it into the uterus are greeted by white blood cells that see the sperm as invaders and attack them. These sperm swim like crazy to try to find the Fallopian tube while avoiding white cells. Finding the fallopian tube is like finding a needle in a haystack. Of the millions of sperm released upon ejaculation, only a handful make it to the fallopian tube where the egg is released. There, the sperm must survive long enough to meet and fertilize the egg.
So, for men, fertility is a number’s game. The more healthy swimmers you send in, the better your chances are that one of them will find the egg. However, it is very hard to precisely correlate sperm count to chances of pregnancy. A man that has a low sperm count with healthy sperm may have a better monthly chance of conceiving than a man who has a higher sperm count but the sperm are unhealthy. Several large scale studies have analyzed the relationship between semen quality and how long it took a couple to get pregnant. Here are the highlights:
More = Better: In general, men with more healthy sperm cells conceive more quickly. Improving count, motility and morphology all seem to improve conception rates.
You don’t need super sperm: Sperm counts have a wide range, anywhere from 0 to over 300 million cells per milileter. While more generally is better, you don’t have to be in the top 5% to become a dad. Chances of conception level out for sperm counts 50 million / mL and above. An average guy, with an average sperm count has just as good a shot of fatherhood as a dude with king kong super sperm.
How low can you go? Many men with a low sperm count can naturally conceive a child, it will just take longer. Studies find that sperm counts below 15-20 million sperm per mililiter correlate with significantly lower chances of conception. For men with sperm count below 10M/mL chances for natural conception get dicey and it’s often recommended to use some sort of assisted reproduction. For counts 1-3 million sperm per mL and higher, IUI or cervical cap conception is a possibility. For counts lower than 1 million / mL, doctors most often recommend in-vitro fertilizatin (or IVF) with ICSI (Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection) which involves isolating a single healthy sperm cell from the sample and injecting it directly into an egg that has been retrieved from the female partner. The resulting embyro is then transferred to the uterus after a few days of monitoring where it can hopefully settle in and grow into a healthy baby.

Improving chances of conception
Many factors influence a couple’s monthly chance of conception – the woman’s age, the “friendliness” or “hostility” of her vaginal tract, the quality of the semen that transports the sperm and the health of the sperm cells and how many sperm cells are there. On average, a very fertile couple will conceive in a few months. Sometimes it can take up to a year. If a couple has impaired fertility, it can take up to 3 years to conceive. Longer than that, there is likely to be an underlying condition that is causing infertility that requires medical attention. Doctors often recommend that couples who have been trying for longer than a year get evaluated to identify potential causes of infertility or main factors that can impair fertility
There are lots of things a couple can do to improve chances of conception. Here are some of the simplest ones:
Have sex, often. Even though a woman’s fertile period is just a few days, it is important for sperm health that the man has regular ejaculations to “flush out the system” so that he doesn’t have an abundance of dead sperm when the big day comes. Ideally, you should aim for at least once a week throughout the cycle and every 1-2 days during the “fertile window”
Make it hot! Orgasm could possibly be one of the best tools you have for improving your chances of conception. On the female side, vaginal contractions during orgasm serve several purposes. They draw more semen out of the man and they draw sperm up towards the cervix. For men, studies have shown that the more exciting the sex, the better the sperm that come out.
pH check: Vaginal surfaces have varying pH levels which can be “friendly” or “hostile” towards sperm. It’s fairly easy to check vaginal pH level and if it’s not optimal there are a variety of products that can help neutralize hostile environments.
Boost your sperm count: Sperm count is not like your shoe size. There are a lot of things that you can do to improve both the sperm count and the health of the sperm. Here is a list of 20 simple things you can do.
Be healthy: Diet, exercise, stress & sleep deeply impact fertility for both men and women. Starting to prepare your life, your home and your heart for a new baby begins with re-arranging your priorities to make sure that you are as healthy as you can be.

Yes, you should be able to conceive. (if the sperm are healthy) If you can take steps to get healthier – eat more fruits and vegetables, get regular exercise, sleep well — you may be able to increase the number and get pregnant more quickly.

To increase motility, I would recommend increasing number of fruits and vegetables that you eat, getting more exercise and avoiding heat in that area.
It could change in a month or two depending on how your life is now.
Please tell me the reports are ok for sperm count and sufficient to be father?

Here is an article that can give you an idea of some things you can do to try to improve. There is also a great app that allows you to track your test results and gives you good advice for improving.

mostly. I think there might be an infection that is causing your sperm to be a little unhealthy. you should visit a doctor about that.
Looks like you have an infection. You should visit a doctor for treatment and then test again after that.

I am taking ciproflexcin 250 mg since 8 days how many days should I continue or is my report is normal am I able to impregnate my wife??
You should finish the course of ciprofloxcin as recommended by your doctor. usually somewhere between 7 – 14 days.
You shouldn’t have too many problems getting pregnant. If you do not get pregnant after 6-9 months of trying, you might want to re-test.
In the meantime, you should do what you can to be healthy to make sure you have a healthy baby.
Good luck!
I am 37yrs old, Married Life 4Yrs but till now I did not have kids.

Please Suggest me does there is any problem
It seems like you had the exact same results for both tests. That is very unusual.
Those medications seem to be good choices. How healthy are you? Has your wife been to the doctor? How often do you have contact with her?
My Health was Good. My Wife had PCOD problem, doctor given medicines but no use, mostly alternative day and ovulation period
Dear Doctor,
Does any problem in my Semem Analysis report, does this count and motility is sufficient.
How much min required please tell.
You have minimum, but you may get pregnant more quickly if you have more.
PCOS can also make it take a long time.
I would recommend that you and your wife look for ways to improve your health together. See if there are ways to exercise together or eat more vegetables. You can try to download this app to see if it can give you good advice for improving your fertility.
Dr my husband has a normal sperm count that 8million and morphology is good as said by our doctor. The problem is at the level of motility with
Rapid motility 10%
Slow motility 15%
Immotile 75% as diagnosed. We have been trying for 11yrs to no avail. All my results are OK. I’m 40yrs and he is 48 yrs. Plse doc we need your advise
Hm, have you tried any fertility treatments? IUI or IVF?
His levels look like it would be hard to conceive naturally. 11 years is a long time to be trying and your ages put you at even greater risk.
Fertility treatment may be a good idea at this point. Have you talked to a doctor about it?

this looks ok. How long have you been trying? Are you having difficulty?
Doctor one year complete but problem im out of country next month go vacation only one month i hope i get paragnat my wife if possible one month
It is very difficult to conceive when you are apart most of the time. It can often take a few months of trying for conception to happen. My best recommendation is to try to have sex 3-4 times a week when you are together. And focus on getting healthy as you can while you are apart.
Iam trying since last five years
5 years is a long time. Its seems like you have something called unexplained infertility. This means that you are having a hard time getting pregnant but there isn’t a medical explanation for why. Have you talked to doctors about fertility treatments?
Hi ma’m my husband’s seman test is as
Volume:2.0ml
Count .40 million
Active.18 percent
Sluggish. 12 percent
Dead.65
Abnormal. 05 percent
Is it normal or not ?
Overall, it looks pretty good. Totally enough to get pregnant naturally. Numbers are a tiny bit lower than I’d like to see and if there are any improvements he could make to his health to try to improve his fertility, it may help you conceive more quickly.
I Have 40% active sperm

colour=white grey…..pls i want to know if this is fine
It looks like the sperm count might be low. but it is hard to tell the way these numbers are reported. What did the lab or doctor say?
My age is 34. My semen analysis are below.
volume: 3ml
pH:8
viscosity : high
liquefication time: 120
Sperm concentration :59
progressive motility percentage:10
total sperm count:177
total motility percentage:28
morophology index: 58.33
My main concern is progressive motility percentage just 10 %. is it result of viscosity high or any other issue ?
My guess is yes, it is due to high viscosity and long liquefacton time. Your total progressive motile is close to 18 million which is borderline. Are you having trouble getting pregnant?

Do you have a question?
Hi, is there a chance of natural conception with this result
Volume. 1.1ml
Liquefaction. 60 min
Sperm count 85 million
Progressive. 10%
Non progressive. 25%
Non motile. 65%
Normal form. 8%
It’s a borderline result. You should be able to conceive but it may take longer than usual. Have you been checked for a varicocele? You might want to go to urologist and ask about that. Also you should take this quiz and let me know if you have any risk factors that could be impacting your sperm.

The sperm count is a little low and could be causing trouble conceiving. Do you have any issues with your health? have you been to a urologist for a full evaluation?
Here are some ideas to improve sperm.
Mam pls tell me what i do for increase sprem count ?and how many sperm count is required for ideal pregnancy ?
There are lots of things you can do to try to improve sperm count. Some of the easiest things include taking a prenatal vitamin or regularly cooling your testicles.
Your health and diet can really have a big impact on your sperm count.
Here are some other resources:
1. Article: 20 simple ways to boost your sperm count
2. Quiz: Find out your lifestyle risks
3. App: Sperm and Health Tracking > most detailed way to make a plan to boost sperm count
I have 85 million sperm count, 25% progressive motile,18% slugish motile,57% immotile, and has a low testosterone level?can i pregnant my wife or i need to fix my testosteron level first before i can pregnant my wife?
These numbers look healthy to conceive. I would not recommend any medication for testosterone. Some of those medications can reduce your sperm count and cause fertility problems.
You might want to take this health questionaire to see if there any lifestyle changes that you can make to boost testosterone levels naturally — like change to diet, getting more sleep or reducing alcohol.

And also this sample was taken 9 days absentee from ejaculation and used some pornography the night before, almost about to ejaculate but stopped. Then the ejaculation was done in the morning to collect sample. so , did this affect the semen viscosity. Pls let me know.
That shouldn’t have impacted the results, but if you do repeat the test. I would recommend 2-5 days of abstinence and not to do that the night before 🙂

I am seeing liquefication is long, only when I am eating healthy food , semen becomes thick. Can you tell me pregnancy chances. We have just tried for 2 month only?
Thick semen is ok. High liquefaction time can be an issue but I wouldn’t be too worried about it. If you do not conceive by 6 months, I would recommend repeating the test and see if it is still high liquefaction time.
Thank You. My main concern is progressive motility percentage just 10 %. is it result of viscosity high or any other issue ?

then which are the days to get concieve easily from which day to which day?
please help
if any details to contact you or to meet then also share.
otherwise its ok if you reply in comment
thank you
I would recommend sex every other day from day 5 to day 20 in the cycle to make sure you meet the fertile window.
If she is tracking her cycle, she may know the exact days of most fertile time and you want to be extra sure to have sex in this fertile days.
she dont know the fertile days.she just know that she get in periods between days 26 to 28.. thats it.
can you help me in that which is maximum days to hit the concieve .
i mean like if i do from 11-15 that is most probality more chances like that..
There are lots of testing kits, apps or other tools that can help her estimate her fertile window. The best thing is to have sex every other day. But yes, the middle is the most fertile time generally.
thank you mam.
if possible please mail you details on mention email.

It looks ok. It is on the low side of what I like to see but in the healthy range. I think you should be able to conceive soon.
Here are a few recommendations to help you improve fertility and hopefully get pregnant sooner. Does your wife have a regular period? Do you have sex regularly throughout the week?

Overall, it looks ok. The volume is a little lower than I like to see but the numbers look like it would be possible to conceive naturally.
Are you trying for a baby? if so, how long?
Sorry my last comment was wrong.
My results were..
Viscosity: increased
Volume 5.5ml
Total motility: 29%
Concentration: 4 x10^6/ml
Progressive motility: 25%
Morphology: 3%
The low morphology may further reduce chances… I would really look into getting a full evaluation and taking one of the health assessments that I listed below to see what might be the cause. I still think you stand a shot of getting pregnant naturally, but it might take a really long time and it would go a long way to increasing your chances if you could even make a small improvement in any of the numbers.
Hi dr!
Volume 5.5ml
Count 4M/ml
Morphology 29%
Progressive motility 25%
Normal 3%
I know it is very low numbers but what are my chances of natural conception?
Natural conception is possible, but the low number reduce your chance each month.
Have you been to a urologist for a full exam? You may also want to take this quick assessment or download this app to see if there is anything you can do to try to improve. Even a small improvement could make a big difference for your chances of natural conception.
I might also add, that you might try using the stork in the meantime. It’s a home kit to help get pregnant with lower sperm count.
Could you please let me know regarding fertility of:
1. Total Sperm Count: 85 million
2. Motility: 70%
3. Moderate Movement: 20%
4. Active Movement: 20%
5. Volume: 1.2 ml.
The volume is a little on the low side, but this looks like a pretty healthy sample.

This is a borderline low result. Your total motile count is around 5 million. Pregnancy is possible with that number but chances increase as you increase the number. A good goal is 20 million total motile sperm. Here’s an app that can help you improve your sperm.

Problems conceiving can be hard for both of you. This is not either of your fault, but you can both do things together to try to improve your chances.
You should re-test to see if the diet you took made any difference. You may also benefit from this app that can provide many recommendations that can help you improve your sperm.
She should also follow the advice of her doctor and do what she can to get more healthy with you.
It can be helpful to take a break from trying for a baby for a few months to reduce your stress. I hope you are able to find an answer. Let me know if you have other questions. I will keep you in my thoughts.

She is pregnant now and i dont know if it was mine cause 5 mos afterour contact my sperm count is still low at 2 million. We were also practicing withdrawal method. Is it possible through preejaculation?
Chances sound low but it’s possible. If you are concerned about paternity, you can always do testing.

Have been trying for 3 Years, could it be me or my partner given the above.
hard to say. This is one look over the course of 3 years. It looks healthy enough that had I not known you have taken a while I wouldn’t suspect that you would have any trouble. But sperm counts can fluctuate and this might be on the high end… how healthy have you been over the past 3 years?
Does your partner have irregular or painful periods? Has she been evaluated? Do you have sex regularly?
Sometimes inability to conceive has an unknown cause… which is really frustrating for everyone

should be able to. Are you trying?
Yes i am trying since 6 months but i think pus cells in my sperm is so high 30–35 pus cells, by this amount of pus cells still am i able to be a father ? Plz answer
It is normal to have some pus cells in semen. I am not sure how the technician analyzed the sample to tell you if 3235 is high. High pus cells does not usually impact fertility, but can indicate that there is an infection or injury somewhere. If you are worried about it, I would recommend talking to your doctor to see if it’s an issue.

Hi, i had a romance with my girl friend and in the process my penis was touch her pant and i felt the outer part of her vagina. i wanna know if the transperent liquid from d tip of my penis (not the sperm it self)is capable of making her pregnant.

If 90% of sperm is dead, can the other 10% pregnant a woman?
Yes
My post vasectomy sperm count analysis came back at 7000/ML. At this point I am basically sterile correct?
Studies for male contraceptives have various benchmarks — I’ve seen under 1M / ml, 250k/ml and 100k/ml as references in various studies related to contraception. It only takes one but lower numbers = lower chances and probability of natural conception for counts under these thresholds are similar to use of hormonal birth control in women.

I don’t see a number for motility. In your case, that number would matter. If the motility is ok, then he should be able to conceive. In either case, I would say his numbers are on the lower side and you can improve your chances by taking steps to improve both of your health. Here is a quiz he can answer to see what things can help. Alternatively, here is an app to download that I highly recommend.

These numbers a little on the low side — Your total motile sperm count is 4.8 million. This is close to the cut-off for natural conception. (around 5m) chances increase as that number goes up to 20 million. If you’d like to try to take steps to improve your sperm count, I would recommend this app.

Looks ok. I’m guessing there are things you could do to improve but you should be able to conceive. It can take a year for a healthy couple to conceive.
Some ideas:
– know her cycle and make sure to have regular sex during the middle days – particularly day 7 – 21
– both of you should try to eat healthy, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, avoid heat, alcohol and cigarettes, take a multivitamin and try to avoid stress if possible.
– focus on each other and try to support each other if a negative test result makes you feel sad

I did iui on april 20 th, my husband sperm count was 27 million after washed, but it failed, in may we did secobd iui we did on may 18 th after washed sperm count is 5.6 million my iui will success this month? Any suggestion, i took letroz 2.5 mg for 10 days, 12 th day fertigen 5000 injected,
i had follicules like 2.2 mm & 1.8 mm, after 28 hours of injection we did iui my husband sperm count is 5.6 million only after washing, if any chance is there for pregnancy??? please tell me
according to research that I’ve read, chances are decent. But success rates for IUIs are around 30-40% per cycle, so in general. It can take a few tries for it to be successful.
After 9 days of iui l have little cramping in stomach and low back pain is there, is there any problem??
This shouldn’t be a problem. It might be a good sign.

That’s a pretty low sperm count. I would recommend that he visit a urologist to get a full evaluation to see if there are any ways that he can boost the count. You can also fill out this questionnaire or download this app to find out if he has any major risk factors that you can talk through with the doctor.
In general, if you can’t raise the number you will probably need to do an IUI (or IVF) to get pregnant. If you want to try something at home, there is a home kit call the Stork OTC that allows you to do something like an IUI on your own. What was the volume? It can give me a better idea if there are enough sperm for this home device…
Most of the time sperm count can increase, but it takes 3-6 months to see improvements. Happy to discuss further if you have more questions.
i did sperm test last year, it read: non motile:01%, count:8,200000/ml. this year i repeated the test, but from different laboratory, and it read: non motile:10%, count:nill.
is this possible, if yes, what do you recommend?
It seems like there is a problem and you should go see a urologist who specializes in male fertility. Here is an article with the additional tests that they should do to figure out what is going on.
Total sperm count 36 ml, volume 2.5 ml, PH Alkaline , liquefaction : less than 30mins, Mortality & progression: active 50%, Morphology Sperm evaluation normal: 70% . Can impregnate a woman?
Sorry the total sperm is 36
I have 36 ml sperm count. Volume: 2.5ml: PH Alkaline, Mortality & Progression: 50% active ; Morphology Sperm Evaluation: Normal: 70%, Immature: Nil. Please can I impregnate a woman?
Yes, you should be able to impregnate a woman. Are you currently trying? If so, how long?
Over three years now.
In that case, these numbers are a little on the low side and could be contributing to problems that you are having. However, 3 years is a long time and this probably isn’t the whole story.
Has your wife / partner been evaluated?
How often are you able to have sex on average?
I got married 6 months ago, we dont have till now pregnancy. my husband has 1st seemen test result is total volume 0.9 ml total count is 15million, motility is 57% and morphology is 9%, then second month test result is total seemen volume is 1.5 ml
total count is 18 million and motility is 56% and morphology is 9%. can we possible for pregnancy.
pregnancy is possible, but his fertility is lower than I would like to see. It might take a year or two to get pregnant with this sperm level…It would be a good idea for him to try to improve his health and see if he can boost his sperm. There are lots of ideas of things he can do to try to improve his sperm.
You said the numbers are on a little low side. Please I don’t understand, does that mean I have low sperm count or not. Please clarify. Thanks
Natural conception is possible but it may take a long time. More sperm will increase your chances. You may want to see if there are things you can do to improve your sperm count or you may want to consider an IUI to increase your chances of getting pregnant.

You should be able to conceive but the numbers are lower than I like to see. Oligocare looks to be a number of vitamins that are known to improve sperm. It shouldn’t hurt. Not sure how much it will help. To see what else you might be able to do you can read this article of 20 simple ways to boost your sperm count, fill out this questionnaire on your risks or download this sperm tracking app.

I have active 45% sperm count 52.million/ml can i conceive child?
You should be able to.
My husband sperm count 10million per ml, volume 2 ml is this sufficient to get pregnancy motility 40% ,to concive
It is on the low side, so chances are lower but it is possible. Is he healthy? There may be things he can do to improve his health that will also boost his sperm count and improve your chances of conceiving.
Total sperm -47millions/ml,active motility =20%, sluggishly motor=15%,dead=65% volume 0.5ml is this normal?????Can my wife get pregnancy??
Pretty normal. The volume is a little low. Did you capture the whole sample?
If a sperm count is around 80 mil per ejaculate and 40% (a+b) motility is that enough to conceive? Thanks
that’s pretty normal.
My husband sperm count 20million ,motility 40% ,to concive
A little low but possible.
Take this quiz to see if there are things he can do to improve. You may also want to schedule an appointment with urologist to check for varicocele

can it be ok for getting pregnency?
It’s a little on the low side but possible for pregnancy.
You can read this article or take this quiz to learn what you can do to improve your chances.
My wife and I are trying to conceive we don’t stay together due to work and its going to take 3 months before we meet to try do I stand a chance of getting her pregnant since I have been able to keep my sperm more than72 days
You don’t need to abstain for 72 days. Ideally, you should have sex with your wife every 2-7 days. If you are apart, you should have sex a couple of times when you first get back together, then every other day if that is possible.
Is that helpful?
I have 40% active motile and 85 milion sperm count can i conceive a child
